Development of manufacturing technical Information of nanocatalysts required by PVC manufacturing industries

Nano Pars Spadana knowledge based company has successfully managed to develop know-how for production of nanocatalysts used as PVC raw material manufacturing units. These nanocatalysts are available in market under the trademark "oxychlorination" and can be purchased at lower prices compared to foreign similar products. Ethylene dichloride (EDC) is extensively used in production of PVC. Currently, EDC is manufactured by four Iranina petrochemical companies, i.e. Arvand, Abadan, Ghadir and Bandar-Imam. In all of this EDC manufacturing facilities, oxychlorination (CuCl2/Al2O3) catalyst is used to convert ethylene and chlorine to Ethylene Dichloride. Nanoporous γ-alumina based on nanocopper bed is the main catalyst support used for oxychlorination catalyst. Fortunately, γ-alumina catalyst support can be supplied domestically.
Regarding the reasons for industrial manufacturing of this nanocatalyst, Saeed Shojaeizadeh, CEO and chairman of Nanopars Spadana saied: "due to the extensive application of PVC in various industries, providing raw materials for its manufacturing is necessary. However, since the implementation of economic sanctions, oxychlorination cannot be purchased from foreign sources which has limited production of EDC in industrial units. This has resulted in reduction of EDC manufacturing capacity and a decrease in the quality of the products due to utilization of used catalysts. Therefore, as a result of comprehensive research, Nano Pars Spadana has succeeded to develop technical knowledge for production of different types of oxychlorination catalysts required by EDC manufacturing units in petrochemical industries."
He also added "reduction of the catalyst production cost which will consequently decrease the EDC production cost is the main benefit of this project. Furthermore, higher quality of the present product compared to available foreign products in addition to elimination of the defects of previous generation of catalysts has led to an improvement in the quality of EDC and PVC final product manufactured using Nano Pars Spadana catalysts."
According to him, domestic production of oxychlorination catalyst not only resolves problems faced by EDC manufacturing units, but also offers sulf-sufficiency in PVC manufacturing and lots of job opportunities. In addition, since both raw materials and equipment needed for this project can be obtained domestically, it is expected that implementation of this project will increase the number of EDC manufacturing units.
It is worth mentioning that nanostructured γ-alumina powder and dehydrogenation and Desulfurization nanocatalysts are other available products manufactured by Nano Pars Spadana Co. which have received the NanoScale certificate from Iran Nanotechnology Initiative Council.
