Having relied on domestic knowledge, Nanopars Spadana knowledge based company has managed to produce high quality nanostructured γ-alumina. This nanomaterial is widely used as catalyst support in oil, gas, petrochemical, pharmaceutical and automotive industries.

Catalysts are one of the most extensively used materials in various industries. Via acceleration of the reaction rate, catalysts significantly reduce the reaction time required to achieve the final product. Since the reaction acceleration process is carried out on the surface of the catalyst, increasing the surface to volume ratio might cause substantial improvement in catalyst efficiency. Reducing the dimensions of the catalyst down to nanometer scale as well as incorporation of nanopores in its structure have been suggested as the main methods to increase the surface area of the catalyst, consequently improving the catalyst performance.
According to Saeed Shojaiezadeh, CEO and chairman of Nanopars Spadana Company: "Catalyst support has a price of 90% of that for the catalyst material. When catalyst support was not available in the country, it should be supplied from foreign sources at any quality and price. However, execution of catalyst support production project resolved this problem and Nanopars Spadana and other companies succeeded to provide large amounts of heterogeneous catalysts based on γ-alumina supports to various industries."
On the advantages of the domestic product over similar foreign products, he also added: "While maintaining the quality as high as the foreign product, domestic production of γ-alumina catalyst support has reduced the expenses of major industries. In addition, it has been successfully modified to improve its performance as catalyst support."
Shojaiezadeh also stated that current annual production amount of this product is 200 tons per year and said: "termination of purchasing γ-alumina from foreign sources has resulted in saving more than 13,000,000,000 Rials of national budget and it is predicted that this number will be increased in the next year."
Implementation of this project has provided 20 job opportunities directly and 95 ones indirectly. It is expected that in the near future, these numbers will be increased to 500 directly related and 600 indirectly related job opportunities by further expanding this project.
It is worth mentioning that γ-alumina product has been patented with the patent number of 44584 and it has already received the NanoScale certificate from Iran Nanotechnology Initiative Council.
