Use of nanotechnology in abrasion-resistant decorative coatings

Use of nanotechnology enhanced coatings on pipes, door knobs, fittings and valves not only has improved the decorative appearance but also has led to higher durability of the products against corrosion and abrasion.
Nanotechnology is a novel technology which has found a wide variety of applications in various scientific areas and industries. One of the most important industries affected by this technology is construction. Use of nanotechnology enhanced coatings on pipes, door knobs, fittings and valves not only has improved the decorative appearance but also has led to higher durability of the products against corrosion and abrasion.
Surface degradation and corrosion are the main factors affecting the decorative appearance and performance of construction products such as valves. Therefore, manufacturers of construction and building products have exploited the anti-corrosion properties of nanostructured coatings in attempt to increase the quality of the products and customer satisfaction.
Noor-Mehr-Hoda company has successfully used nanostructured decorative coatings on valves, knobs, etc. The products have been well-received by the costumers because of their anti-abrasion and corrosion resistance properties.
Using unique properties of the nanocoatings results in increase in hardness, decrease in friction coefficient, reduction in surface roughness and improvement of corrosion resistance of the products.
Steel fittings and valves manufactured by Noor-Mehr-Hoda Co. are coated by an abrasion-resistant decorative TiN coating with a thickness of few nanometers via physical vapor deposition process.
Thin layer coatings of transition metal nitrides such as TiN have wide industrial applications in hard protective coatings, diffusion barriers in semiconductors and decorative and optical applications. Few nanometer thick TiN coating has a high adhesion and is economically cost effective.
The nanostructured coating can also be used on other products exposed to wear, abrasion and corrosion during using and cleaning including pipes, valves, sport goods, utensils, glasses frame, door knob, etc.
Cost efficiency, good decorative appearance and resistance against corrosion and oxidation are the main properties of the nanocoated products which have made them qualified for receiving the NanoScale certificate from the product evaluation unit of the Iran nanotechnology initiative council.
